I Was Walking Really Fast And My Shoe Just Flew Up On The Roof

Today the kids were in the other room while Nancy and I were in the computer room. Soon the air was filled with the sounds of Samuel’s wails. When Nancy inquired as to what happened, Anne said, “Samuel got kicked”. When we asked Anne who had kicked Samuel, she told one of the best whoppers that I’ve ever heard:

“I was sitting on the couch just reading my book and I was kicking my leg because I just like kicking. I didn’t know that Samuel was there and my kick accidentally kicked Samuel in the head.”

I had a hard time keeping myself from laughing out loud when she told me that one. I’ll give her an “A” for creativity but she still got busted and sent to her room because no self respecting parent would ever let a kid get away with “… I was kicking my leg because I just like kicking…”.

Of course that reminds me of some of the greatest whoppers of all time:

  • “I was walking really fast and my shoe just flew up on the roof” – Told by Nathan in response to a query on why his shoe was sitting on the roof right next to the basketball hoop
  • “I found a jar of pennies down by the snack bar at the school” – Told by Kelly in response to a query on why she had a jar of pennies and candy in her possession while at the same time a jar of pennies was missing from Dad’s closet

I know I’ve told my fair share of whoppers but none probably as creative as the above classics. Does anyone else remember any classic whoppers that I should add to my list?

27 Aug 2005 15:18:00 UPDATE – Changed the culprit of the second whopper from Nate to Kelly. Sorry about that Nate.

Uh, I was the pennies. Didn’t know Nate had taken the rap for that the past 24 years. Sorry Nate.
