Sam’s artwork

Today is my birthday and Sam made a special picture for me. It is interesting that when my girls draw pictures they draw a scene, but when Sam draws a picture he tells a story. Can you see the story behind this picture?

Camera Update

I went outside to check the garbage can in case the camera had fallen in, and I found it. Luckily it wasn’t in too deep so I could reach in and get it with not too much searching in the muck. So now I will put some pictures in my post about Samuel’s birthday party.

More canning news

I got a call from my aunt Kathy on Monday inviting me to go with her and her daughter to Brigham City to go get some peaches for canning. Unlucky for me is that all my kids are in school and there is no good time for me to go except for weekends. I was in luck though because she told me that they would get a half bushel for me and all I had to do was go to her house(which is really close by) and pick them up. I have the nicest relatives in the world. So on Thursday night I went over and picked them up and spent a good half hour or so catching up with my aunt Kathy.

On Friday I decided that I would can the peaches before they started going bad. I thought I might only get one batch out of them but I lucked out again and got two full batches of peaches. They were pretty big peaches so I had to quarter them instead of halving them. I think they turned out great. Now I have to go pick some tomatoes out of my own garden and then I will have to can some more this next week. We should be stocked up on peaches and tomatoes for the whole winter and then some.

All I Want For Christmas

I don’t know if I’m hard to give to or not but now that my siblings have drawn names I figure I’ll publish a list of what I want/need for Christmas. In addition, I’ll have Nancy start making a list as well so I don’t have to try and read her mind each year. We’ll keep updating this over the next couple of weeks. Might as well make it easier for others to shop for us!

– Grill brush
– Pair of jeans. I wrecked my current pair scootching around on my bum on the roof. (I’m down to a size 40 now. Hopefully those jeans will only be used for 3-4 months because I’ll have dropped down another size or two).
– Dark dress socks
– BYU Gear (sweatshirt, hoodie, golf shirt, etc.)
– Jigsaw puzzle 5000 pieces or greater. If you really want to go all out you can always get me the worlds largest jigsaw puzzle.
– A paid off mortgage (A guy can always dream can’t he?)

– Cookbooks – We have plenty of Asian cookbooks so I would like something European or Meditteranean. Greek, Italian, Scandinavian, French, etc.
– Spa/manicure/pedicure
– House plants/plant stands
– Dry erase whiteboard that I can hang in my kitchen

A Thursday Night Game

I don’t like Thursday night games as a general practice but it’s fun to have one every once in a while. The main problem with weekday games is traffic. On a Saturday game I leave 1.5 hours before kickoff and usually have plenty of time to spare – time to see the band march up the street, watch warm-ups, national anthem, etc. Tonight the plan was to leave 2 hours early but I was late getting home from work and that put us 20 minutes behind schedule. Traffic was horrible all the way down to the stadium and we found our seats just before kickoff.

Other than the bad traffic, it was a perfect night for a game. The weather was beautiful- chilly but not too cold, the crowd was spirited, the teams were energetic, and my beloved Cougars came away with a win. How could it get better than that? Well, it could get better if the Cougars covered the spread. Last year BYU covered the spread in nearly every game. This year it seems like they’re winning but not covering the spread in nearly every game.

What is that thing?

I think TCU is a pretty good addition to the conference. The TCU fans aren’t completly crass and vulgar (Wyoming), they don’t have an annoying chant (UNLV), and well, let’s just say they don’t bug me as bad as the Utes. The only drawback to TCU is that they have the world’s ugliest mascot. That horned frog costume has got to be the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen.

Enjoying the halftime show (the drumline looks good Danny!)

I convinced Nancy to go (she only goes to one or two games a season and only if it’s good weather) and thus we took Sam and Diana (Diana gets bored easily and has to go potty frequently so I don’t like to take her by myself). The kids had a good time and Sam is starting to enjoy the game a bit more – but still not as much as he enjoys hot dogs and nachos.

The other day Samuel saw a BYU hat in Macey’s and told Nancy he wanted it. She got him the hat and purposely got it several sizes too big “so he can grow into it”. I didn’t think Samuel would last very long with the hat but he surprised me. He wore it the entire time and didn’t take it off to play with it or annoy me with it. He still had it on in the car on the way home.

Driving home after the big game

Nancy’s Birthday

Tonight we celebrated Nancy’s birthday by going on a date to the Market Street Grill and leaving the kids at home. We’re glad that a Market Street Grill opened up in South Jordan. In fact, we rarely go to a downtown restaurant these days (sushi being a notable exception – we haven’t found a good sushi place on the south end of the valley yet). The only problem with going to Market Street was the fact that Bingham high was playing a home football game tonight (Thursday – likely because of the deer hunt starting this Saturday) so traffic on 104th south was a nightmare.

After dinner we had cake and ice cream at home. Notice that the number of candle’s on Nancy’s birthday have nothing to do with her age (if you were thinking 34 because of the 4 candles you would be wrong – she’s definitely older than 34).

Nancy’s New Hair

Nancy is getting a few gray hairs and decided to dye her hair to cover the gray. She also figured that as long as she was coloring her hair she might as well go for a totally new color. I thought she should try the “blonde look” but she passed on that and decided to be a redhead instead. She got an appointment on the saturday after Thanksgiving and I watched the kids while she got her hair colored and did some shopping.

The color has adjusted a bit over the past week so it’s not as cherry red now as it was in the picture. All in all I like her red hair and she seems to like it too. Who knows, maybe when it fades she’ll try becoming a blonde.
