A family activity

The kids have been bugging me to do a family activity so we decided to go mini-golfing at our neighborhood fun center. When it comes to mini-golf, I can go about 2 or 3 holes of taking turns, putting in order, keeping score, etc. before I (and the kids) lose patience and everyone just starts… Continue reading A family activity

Graduation

This month brought the end of nearly two years of school, including both summers for a total of 6 semesters, and with it the completion of my masters degree in Software Management from CMU. I didn’t participate in formal graduation ceremonies as an undergrad. I had a rather checkered undergraduate educational experience and the completion… Continue reading Graduation

Now that’s a cabbage!

Sam brought a small cabbage plant home from school earlier in the year in a cup. I’m not sure what science project his class was working on but apparently it involved planting a cabbage seed. Most of the “plant a seed in a cup” type of projects our household undertakes end up not working out.… Continue reading Now that’s a cabbage!

Rocket Race

This year in Cub Scouts they did the rocket race instead of the Pinewood Derby. Sam had fun making his rocket and stuck with the usual BYU blue. The rockets don’t have nearly as much room for customization and tweaking as the pinewood derby cars do. They also don’t have the people buying cheater wheels… Continue reading Rocket Race

2011 Pioneer Trek

I was asked by the stake to be a “big brother” for Trek this year. “What’s a big brother?”, you ask. Well, it’s basically just a helper. All the youth on trek are divided up into handcart groups with a “ma” and “pa” (husband and wife couple) and adult “big brother” for each cart. The… Continue reading 2011 Pioneer Trek

2011 Spring Recital

The kids had their 2011 Spring Recital at a local music store. The action on the recital hall piano was much stiffer than the kids are used to so they had a hard time with it even though this recital they were probably better prepared than most. They didn’t want me to post these videos… Continue reading 2011 Spring Recital

Sam’s Patton Book Report

Sam had to read a biography and do a book report on it for school. Fascinated by anything related to the military, he choose a biography on General Patton. Part of the book report requirements were to make a poster related to the book. Although not blessed with the drawing talent that his sister has,… Continue reading Sam’s Patton Book Report

Another lost tooth

How can you tell if a kid is 7 years old? By their missing teeth, of course! Unfortunately, the tooth fairy is pretty distracted in our house and is famous for not remembering to come. Wonder how many days will go by with Diana dropping hints about it before the tooth fairy will remember to… Continue reading Another lost tooth

April Birthdays

Sam and Diana have birthdays only a few days apart. I can never remember which person’s birthday is on which day. Luckily for Sam and Diana, the got to have separate birthday celebrations this month instead of getting a combined one like Caroline and I do. Sam’s birthday is first but Diana has a hard… Continue reading April Birthdays

Easter 2011

Our typical low-key Easter. Some easter eggs in the back yard, a bit of candy and that’s about it. This year the weather was rather warm for early April and we’ve already put parts of our garden in. It looks like both the lawn and Sam’s hair are ready for a mow.
